The Art of the Grand Tour

The grand tour was never about efficiency. It was about the deliberate choice of a longer road, taken slowly enough to notice what was on either side of it.

We planned this one backwards: the last pass first, then the roads that made sense before it. Eight hundred kilometres over three days, with no fixed hotel until the second night.

What the car gives you on a route like this is not speed. It is the ability to stop caring about distance — to treat a detour as a decision rather than a cost.
